Every year, Toys for Tots provides Christmas gifts to young children who might not otherwise have a present to open.
But while their teenage siblings are happy for them, the teens may feel left out with no gift to open themselves. Warsaw Community High School's Family Career & Community Leaders of America organization is in its second year of changing that.
"Trinkets for Teens is an organization that gives gifts for teens," said WCHS senior Amanda Skibowski. She said Trinkets for Teens provides gifts for kids from ages 12 through 18.
FCCLA adviser Ronna Kawsky said Trinkets for Teens is a service project for FCCLA. The organization has 40 members in grades 9-12.
Collection boxes are at all Mutual Federal Savings Bank branches and the main office at WCHS. Gifts may be dropped off from now through Dec. 19.
Skibowski said gifts can include "anything you would want, a teenager would want," including boom boxes, CD players, perfume, lotions, CDs, cameras, gloves, watches, hats, movie passes, DVDs, gift cards, fun school supplies, carwash tokens, slippers, jewelry and handheld games.
"A lot of people donated money, too," said Skibowski.
"Our goal is to get bigger and bigger, go nationwide," said Kawsky. "... We try to run it right along with Toys for Tots."
Skibowski said the teens' gifts will be delivered with the Toys for Tots gifts. Gifts for girls will be wrapped in pink, with gifts for boys in blue.
