Tree Trimming

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:
A lot of people were duped by a tree trimmer. The only ones that were not duped were the city, its street department as well as our current mayor. When I first got into the tree issue across the street from my house I was led to believe that it was a poor guy that only wanted wood to heat his home and was doing a favor for my neighbor. I, however, did not want to see all the trees come down there but it was not my decision to make. I do know that I have my land and others have theirs so as long as you don’t hurt others it’s OK to do what you want to do on your land.

It seems now that this person or persons does odd jobs around town and it is not the first time this has happened where the city cleaned up trash left by this guy who was getting what he wanted and leaving the trash behind. The neighbor was duped because she has had to live with a mess for three months and her neighbors are not happy either. The small limbs are gone now but the huge trunks and much of the mess remains. Only God and maybe the tree trimmer knows when it will all be cleaned up.

Here is a great example of why we all need to check out references of people wanting to work for us. I am a licensed contractor in Calif. Before I was allowed to do anything, I wrote a contract explaining all I was going to do or not do before the work commenced. I have a bonding company that bonds me in California, and if I don’t carry out my contract they will pay you to have it completed and come after me for the money. As a result if I want to keep working I must carry out my contracts.

Before someone starts work on your things such as house or auto get a written explanation of what it will be and how much it will cost and who is going to clean it up. Also, how long will they spend on it and when will you get rid of them. It may not seem important in the beginning, however, you may have a front yard that looks like an Oregon timber farm for several months if not longer.

On a side note, I want to congratulate our new Mayor Joe Thallemer and thank Ernie Wiggins for their service to our city. I look forward to many city meetings in the future concerning the issues that face us all in the coming years.
