Treasurer's Tree Tracks Seasons

Posted

"To everything, turn, turn, turn. There is a season, turn, turn, turn."

Those are lyrics from the classic song, "Turn, Turn, Turn" by the Byrds.

The Kosciusko County Treasurer's Office celebrates the idea of that song as they redecorate a tree in their office as the seasons turn. The tree is kept up all year long. Currently, the Halloween, Thanksgiving and autumn season is celebrated.

Treasurer Stephanie Esenwein said the previous treasurer had kept up the tree for quite a while. The current staff began redecorating the tree on a regular basis some time last year, she said.

Along with holidays and seasons, the tree is also decorated for tax time in the spring. Esenwein said the staff decorates the tree with tax papers and play money.

"We had some people ask us if it was real money," she said.

She said children enjoy the tree and it is a great conversation piece. She said they were often complimented on it.

The tree is decorated by whoever happens to be free at the moment, Esenwein said. She said all staff members work on it.

"A time to gain, a time to lose, a time to rend, a time to sew, a time for love, a time for hate, a time for peace, I swear it's not too late."

In the coming month, the tree will turn into a Christmas tree but it's not too late for the public to see the current tree in its autumn look.
