Kosciusko County treasurer Kent Adams said property tax statements will be mailed April 18 with a due date of May 10 for the spring installment.
Six county banks will accept 2006 taxes up to the close of business May 10 for anyone owning property in Kosciusko County.
Adams said he is pleased the banks are continuing this practice as a service to the public for customers and non-customers. Tax statements and payments may be taken to the county treasurer's office in the courthouse.
"It certainly is a convenience for those who choose to use this service and to the county in the collection of these funds that are so important in servicing and meeting the needs of our residents. We greatly appreciate the cooperative effort of these bank institutions," Adams said of the Lockbox program begun last year..
Payments can be made by cash or check and, if by check, made payable to Kosciusko County Treasurer. In order for the banks to receive payment, it must be accompanied by a copy of the tax statement previously mailed to the property owner.
Banks can only accept the current tax amounts as indicated on the tax statement. Questions will be answered at the county treasurer's office in the courthouse.
The participating banks are: Campbell & Fetter, Farmers State, First Federal Savings, Lake City, Mutual Federal Savings and National City.
Taxes paid by mail must be received and postmarked on or before May 10 to avoid penalty. Payments made by mail need to have the tax bill and a self-addressed stamped envelope enclosed, along with a check matching the amount due. A paid receipt will be sent bank to property owners for their records.
Adams stressed the importance of matching the amount of taxes due with the amount indicated on the check. The payments made by mail are electronically scanned and processed under the new Lockbox system implemented by the treasurer's office.
Property tax revenue goes for local services, schools, city, township, police and fire protection.
