Editor, Times-Union: I received a political postcard on Tuesday, April, 22, 2014, sent on behalf of the Indiana Business for Responsive Government with the definition of treason and how “Curt Nisly wants to break-up America.” This group lifted the definition for treason from www.dictionary.com If the residents of District 22 would compare this definition with the actual definition in the U.S. Constitution, they would be outraged that a campaign would stoop so low to accuse their opponent of such things. This charge of treason is a serious and robust charge. It strikes of inflammatory and slanderous accusation. Please note, our U.S. Constitution is upheld, remonstrated and understood by many private sector citizens and I must admit, I was floored by such an arrogant accusation. It demonstrates the desperation of both the Kubacki campaign and our state chamber (not to be confused with our local Kosciusko Chamber). This charge appears to be nothing more than a diversionary tactic to distract the public from the true issues of this campaign, centered around Ms. Kubacki’s “roll call” voting record in the 2014 General Assembly. I can only imagine what other railing accusations concerning her opponent will come out of her campaign as this primary race comes to a close on May 6. To charge any individual of treason, as not defined by our U.S. Constitution, could be considered libel. A simple dictionary definition does not do justice to the U.S. Constitution, framed by our Founding Fathers and is being used today as a battering ram and being trampled under foot by many elected officials sent to represent “We the People.” This mailing is downright shameful! To think that our current Rep. Rebecca Kubacki would allow, support and malign her opponent with the charge of treason is preposterous. I have followed very closely the letters to the editor over the past couple of months and I find it strikingly amazing how one campaign has merely called for accountability concerning “roll call” votes and the rationale behind them. The Kubacki campaign, however, is able to label their opponent with terms like “horrible,” “terrible,” “cowardly,” “despicable,” “unChristian” and now “treasonous,” all for pointing out her voting record today compared to her votes in 2011. All of these words have been Ms. Kubacki’s quotes since last Wednesday, April 17, 2014. Let’s face it, numbers don’t lie, people do! Public voting records don’t lie, unscrupulous politicians do! Our incumbent representative, Ms. Kubacki, finds it more important to defer real questions from constituents to professionals and experts. I challenge and encourage the fine citizens of District 22 to evaluate these public accusations and compare them to Ms. Kubacki’s voting record from 2011 to present, and ask if your conservative values are being represented accordingly.
