Trapped Patron In Elevator Leads To Policy Change At Warsaw Library

A patron had to be helped out of the Warsaw Community Public Library after being trapped during the recent wind storm, Director Ann Zydek told the Warsaw Library Board Monday.
The library was closed due to the wind storm April 14. The fire department had to come to help a patron that got trapped in one of the elevators for over an hour and library staff didn’t know he was in the elevator.
Zydek said the library did go over its policies and procedures after that. The policies and procedures were modified to try to help make sure people don’t get left in the library after staff members leave.
Also, she said as “we’re moving away from COVID,” the library is seeing more people come into the library. And if the library holds a program, staff notice a high volume of checked-out items right after the program.
Zydek said when she was double checking what times were the busiest, 11 a.m. seems to be the busiest time of day. Also, noon, 1 and 4 p.m. had the highest volume of traffic at the library.
In other business, the Board learned:
• From April 3 to 9, the library celebrated National Library Week and Zydek said the theme was “Connect To Your Library.” The Friends of the Library treated library staff to a lunch on April 5.
• The library is gearing up for its summer reading program to start June 1.
