Training Before DemolitionDemolition of the old Warsaw City Hall is tentatively is scheduled to begin Monday, according to Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer. Before that happens, local emergency services are using it for training exercises. The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, along with four officers from Nappanee Police Department, used it for training Thursday. KCSO Det. James Marshall said about 17 officers were involved, including jail officers and road deputies who played the “bad” guys. Simunition are marker rounds fired out of normal guns, which allowed the deputies to train inside the building with guns. “It’s realistic without getting doctors involved,” he said. Thallemer said the Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory was going to do some training exercises Saturday, with the Warsaw Police Department also taking advantage of the vacant building sometime over the next few days. Located at the intersection of High and Market streets, the old city hall building was purchased by the Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church in June for $140,000. After the building is demolished, the land will be used for additional parking. The building has sat empty for about five years after the city moved most of its operations to the former bank building at 102 S. Buffalo St., across from the county courthouse.
