Train Ride Lands Three in Jail

Posted
Three individuals were arrested Monday by Silver Lake and county officers after “riding the rails” in Kosciusko County.

Silver Lake Town Marshal Craig Hollopeter and Kosciusko County Sheriff's deputies responded Monday at 1:05 p.m. to the Main Street crossing in Silver Lake on a report of trespassers inside a railroad boxcar.

Hollopeter and officers found the stopped Norfolk Southern Railroad train and subsequently located three subjects inside an empty boxcar.

Police arrested Eddie Scott Mallory, 28, Temple, Ga., Charles Ryan McAllister, 28, Elsmer, Ky., and Christina Marie Roche, 19, Cincinnati, Ohio, on preliminary charges of criminal trespassing on railroad property.

The three individuals stated that they had boarded the empty boxcar over the weekend with primitive railroad maps.  They apparently had no general destination other than the state of Indiana and were very surprised that they were actually in the northern part of the state, according to police.

Officers stated that the three were extremely dirty from railroad dust when they were booked into the Kosciusko County Jail.  Mallory, McAllister, and Roche are still being held on individual $350 bonds.
