A Fort Wayne woman was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital as a precaution after the vehicle she was driving was struck by a train. Sandra Casanova, 42, Fort Wayne, was westbound on East Market Street when the 2004 Lexus SUV she was driving was struck by a northbound Norfolk Southern train. The train then dragged the SUV for two blocks where it came unlodged just passed the Main Street crossing. Warsaw Police, Fire and Multi-Township EMS responded to the scene. Casanova reported no injuries but was transported to KCH by M-TEMS as a precaution. The 132-car train blocked street crossings from East Fort Wayne Street south to Ranch Road, causing traffic detours and delays while Norfolk Southern and emergency crews investigated the scene. The Market Street crossing has railroad crossing signals but no gates. Casanova reported not seeing the activated crossing lights, hearing the crossing bell or the train whistle. Warsaw Street Department had to barricade parts of Arthur Street as detouring traffic drove the wrong direction down the one-way street. The train was expected to be moving by 10:30 this morning.
