WINONA LAKE - An early morning chase led to the arrest of a Warsaw man on methamphetamine and resisting arrest charges.
Joshua Cone, 29, of 5633 N. Oswego Road, Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 5:50 a.m. today for an illegal drug lab, reckless driving and resisting/fleeing law enforcement. His bond was set at $10,000.According to the Winona Lake Police Department, around 1:26 a.m. Officer Brad Kellar was patrolling and saw a suspicious mo-ped in the Country Gardens Estates neighborhood.
When Kellar tried to stop the mo-ped for a traffic infraction, the rider, later identified as Cone, failed to stop for a stop sign and tried to flee.
After disregarding a second stop sign, Cone reportedly tried to drive off road in an open lot, wrecked his mo-ped and continued to flee on foot.
Kellar followed on foot, and Cone allegedly jumped into the canal and continued to flee.
When other officers arrived at the scene, they asked to use a boat owned by Roger Crouse, and Kosciusko County Sheriff's Deputies helped Winona Lake officers catch Cone in the water.
After Cone was in custody, Kellar went back to investigate the mo-ped, where he smelled ether. Further inspection of the mo-ped uncovered a mobile methamphetamine lab.
The Indiana State Police Clandestine Laboratory Team was called to assist in dismantling the illegal lab. Product found at the scene field-tested as methamphetamine.
Cone was taken to the hospital for evaluation and, once released, taken to the Kosciusko County Jail.
Winona Lake Police were assisted by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Warsaw Police Department, Indiana State Police and Multi Township EMS.
