A traffic stop for a muffler violation turned into a drug arrest in Warsaw Tuesday.
Indiana State Trooper Tim Carpenter stopped the vehicle at the intersection of CRs 300N and 150E, Warsaw, and then found out that the driver reportedly had two active warrants, was in possession of methamphetamine and had an active meth lab in the trunk of the car.
John Tilden Wood, 36, Bristol, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail for possession of methamphetamine and was being held on $2,000 bond. Wood reportedly also had two outstanding warrants for pseudophedrine log violations in DeKalb County.
According to Carpenter, Wood acted nervous during the traffic stop, and Carpenter noticed a strong chemical smell coming from the car.
After Wood was arrested, the car was impounded and searched. Officers allegedly found more than 17 grams of meth, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and unauthorized prescription drugs in the center armrest of the vehicle. Then officers opened the trunk and discovered an active meth lab.
Wood was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail where he will face charges for drug possession, and then will be transported to DeKalb County.
