Traffic Panel Ordinance Updated

They met to do a little housekeeping.

Wednesday, Warsaw city council members changed an ordinance regarding membership on the traffic commission to reflect the roster.

For years the board has comprised eight members: two council representatives, two citizens, two members of the police department, a school corporation appointee and the city planner. Current members are Trish Brown, Bill Rhoades, Jo Paczkowski, Dan Robinson, Rande Thorpe, Kip Shuter, Steve Foster and Jeff Noffsinger.

The original city code establishing the commission calls for two council members and three non-council members to serve on the board.

Over the years more people have been added.

The new ordinance calls for seven voting members, with the city planner serving as an adviser.

Councilwoman Brown said the new number of members makes things easier because a quorum of four allows the meeting to proceed and tie votes would be less likely to happen.

The discrepancy was found by Ron and Betty Gilbert while they researched past action taken regarding Reed Street.

The Gilberts presented a petition at the Dec. 17 council meeting asking that the short block be made one-way southbound.

In 1995 both Reed and Tamarack streets were considered as one-ways. When the 1996 ordinance was signed, the one-way designation was given only to Tamarack Street.
