OSWEGO - Return to the days of the one-room school and the country school teacher sporting the slate and hickory stick when Scott Parker portrays a Hoosier school master during Oswego Trader Days Saturday and Sunday.

Parker's presentation will be at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Camping, music, lectures, food, school, black powder shoots, games, church, demonstrations and a trip to the country store will bring history alive.

The centerpiece of Oswego is the John Pound Store. Built in 1838, the old store is under renovation and is the oldest still standing commercial building in Kosciusko County.

Trader Days opening ceremonies will begin Saturday at 9 a.m. with colors performed by Boy Scout Troop No. 715.

Steve Bennett will portray Abraham Lincoln at 1 p.m. and musical entertainment will be provided by Mark and Liza Woolever at 2 p.m.

The Stones Trace Regulators will give a black powder shooting demonstration at 3 p.m. Closing ceremonies for Saturday will be at 5 p.m.

Throughout Saturday, the John Pound Store will be open for those wanting to see the progress being made in the restoration.

Following the 9 a.m. opening colors, a combined church service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday with the First Baptist Church of Oswego and the Calvary Baptist Church of Oswego.

The church service will be followed by tomahawk- and skillet-throwing contests for adults at 11:30 a.m. and The Oswego Story by county historian Ron Sharp at 1 p.m.

Musical entertainment, a black powder shoot and closing colors will round out the festivities.

Proceeds from Trader Days will go toward the Pound Store renovation.
