WINONA LAKE – More than $30,000 was raised for walk and bike paths in memory of Tracey Yeager during the Memorial 5K Monday. Nearly 550 paid registrants turned out for the cold and rainy Memorial Day run. It was the second run held in honor of Yeager, a Navy helicoptor pilot who lost her battle with cancer in 2010. Money from runners as well as other sponsors and donors will go to the Tracey’s Trails Fund at the Kosciusko County Community Foundation. The fund will support the building, improving and maintaining of hiking and cycling trials, greenways and parks in Kosciusko County. Daniel Neidlinger, 25, Plymouth, was the overall male finisher with a time of 19:03, and Allison Miller, 13, Warsaw, was the first female finisher with a time of 19:34. An out of town attendee remarked that the run “really started my holiday off right and sent home the message of what Memorial Day is all about: Being with family and friends and recognizing those who have served and sacrificed so much for the freedoms we enjoy,” according to event organizers.
