Town: Lippert Corp. Dumping Illegally

Posted

MILFORD - Illegal dumping topped the agenda at Monday's monthly Milford town council meeting.

Utilities Superintendent Dallas Winchester reported Lippert Corp. is "dumping things they shouldn't be," and that if it doesn't stop, he believes the town should refuse them service.

According to Winchester, high phosphorous levels in the company's waste may be showing up in the town's water tests and if it continues, will cost the town a lot of money.

"Do we want one company to cost the town of Milford hundreds of thousands of dollars?" Winchester asked.

Board members questioned Winchester regarding evidence of improper dumping and Winchester said the frequent water tests he and his department members take can unequivocally prove it.

Winchester also delivered a bit of good news regarding a Milford company. Seller's Manufacturing officially broke ground this week.

The company will do automotive framework fabrication, including work on General Motors' new E-Z Ride system.

Councilman Doug Ruch said the company is expected to be an asset to the community and that its employees have been cooperative in all respects.

In other utilities business:

• Steve Macquart recently obtained his Distribution Medium license and a 50-cent hourly raise was approved.

• Winchester requested to purchase a Sensophone Monitoring System. The technology makes automatic phone calls to public utility workers in case of a power outage of emergency. Winchester said the town's waste plant requires immediate attention during a power outage, as components must be manually restarted.

In town business:

• A meeting for those interested in Milford Fest is scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. in the Milford Town Council Room.

• The Emergency Medical Service will hold a fundraiser April 1 with Nelson's Chicken being sold in the Dollar General parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• The parks department announced they are accepting applications for lifeguard positions.

Milford Town Council members are Gary Hurd, Robert Cockburn and Douglas Ruch.
