WINONA LAKE - Despite progress by Merrywood mobile home park management to repair broken sewer lines, the town of Winona Lake reinforced its concerns Tuesday.
The park hired a company that recently identified about 26 leaks in the sewer lines in the park, and repairs began Monday, according to the town's public works superintendent Kim Endicott.
Construction began after the town threatened to cut off sewer service at the end of April if the park didn't begin making repairs.
Town officials want the repairs made to reduce the high level of infiltration coming into sewer lines from the park.
The infiltration results in higher costs for the town to treat the waste. Wastewater is treated for the town by the city of Warsaw.
On Tuesday, the town passed a resolution reiterating their plans to cut off sewer service if the park would stop its repair efforts.
"If they don't follow through on what they said, we'll have to plug the line," said town council president Brent Wilcoxson during the town's Tuesday meeting.
