Continuously serving Kosciusko County since 1854
The Fort Wayne Komets have hired John Torchetti as the 21st head coach, the club announced Friday.
Torchetti, 32, had been serving this season as an assistant coach at San Antonio in the International Hockey League. He has had two successful stints as head coach of the Central Hockey League's San Antonio Iguanas before joining the Dragons this year.
Torchetti began his coaching career in 1992-93 in Greensboro, N.C. as an assistant coach. He spent three seasons with the Iguanas before being named head coach and going to the CHL finals twice.
The Boston native also enjoyed a successful playing career with four championships in the Atlantic Coast and East Coast Hockey League.
The Komets travel to Cleveland for a game tonight against the Lumberjacks. They host Grand Rapids Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
