WINONA LAKE - Lakeland Christian Academy has named Jennifer D. Rex as valedictorian of the class of 2004. John E. Franklin IV is salutatorian and co-Timothian, and Elizabeth L. Hand is the other co-Timothian. The Timothian Award is given to the graduating senior who best examplifies the exhortation in Timothy 4:12, which says: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity."
Rex is graduating with a grade point average of 98.95 on a 100-point scale. The daughter of Robert and Carolyn Rex, Warsaw, she has been a member of Student Senate and Executive Student Senate; has served as class secretary; is a member of National Honor Society and is listed in "Who's Who Among American High School Students"; has been on the all-A honor roll; and attends Christ Covenant Church. She plans to major in English education at Grace College, where she was awarded the Presidential Merit Award Scholarship.
Franklin, the salutatorian and co-Timothian, is the son of John and Carol Franklin, Winona Lake. He is graduating with a GPA of 97.71, has been a member of Student Senate, varsity soccer team, captain of the varsity basketball team and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and was crowned homecoming king 2004. He attends Pleasant View Bible Church and will study communications at Grace College, where he received the Dane A. and Mary Louise Miller Merit Award.
Hand, co-Timothian, is the daughter of Terry and Terese Hand, Warsaw. She was on the soccer team, in the school play and on the homecoming court. She also was instrumental in starting a student-led accountability group, Girls Living Out Wisdom. She attends Warsaw Community Church and will go to Hope College, Holland, Mich., this fall.
