Top-Ranked Tigers Beat Blackhawk At Stonehenge

    In its first match at their home course, the top-ranked Warsaw boys golf team defeated Fort Wayne Blackhawk 150-174 Thursday at Stonehenge Golf Club.
    Playing on the par-35 front nine, Warsaw’s Tim Ahlersmeyer shot par, followed by Tyler Ostrom’s 37. Warsaw’s Eric Tandy and Jon Schram each shot a 39, while Bennett Hollar and Lance Lybarger rounded out the scoring with a 40 and 47, respectively.
    The 2-0 Warsaw Tigers host their Tiger Invitational Saturday at 11 a.m., bringing in No. 3 Avon, No. 4 Zionsville, No. 15 Homestead, No. 16 Hamilton Southeastern, No. 17 Carmel, No. 18 Columbus North, Bremen, Cathedral, Lafayette Jefferson, Marion and Triton.

Thursday in Syracuse
Hosting the Central Noble golf team Thursday, the Wawasee Warriors posted an easy 175-210 win at South Shore Golf Club. On the par-36 course, Wawasee’s Ben Jackson led all varsity players with a 41, while Tyler Hare actually shot par for the Warriors’ junior varsity team. Other varsity scores for the Warriors were 43s from Derek Zurcher and Tyler Kissinger, as well as Luke Jackson’s 48 and Dylan Cousins’ 49. The 2-0 Warriors will be at Saturday’s Whitko Invitational, which will take place at Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester.

Thursday in Akron
In a game with three hits, the Tippecanoe Valley baseball team defeated Frontier 2-0 Thursday in Akron. Mustering just one hit off of Frontier’s Travis Demerly, the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings manufactured runs, as one was scored on an error and another on a double steal. Tanner Andrews got the win on the mound, while James Hackworth got the save. The 8-4 Vikings travel to Taylor Saturday.

After giving up one run in the top of the seventh inning Thursday at home, the Wawasee baseball team fell 6-5 to Elkhart Memorial. The Northern Lakes Conference loss drops Wawasee to 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference. Highlights for the Wawasee Warriors were Dylan Wallace’s 3-for-3 day, which featured a double, a home run and two RBIs, as well as Aaron Beer’s double and two RBIs. The Warriors travel to NorthWood today for another NLC game.

Hosting the Penn Lady Kingsmen Thursday, the Warsaw softball team fell 7-1. Penn got the victory by hitting four home runs, with Mackenize Joecken hitting two and Holly Hoffman and Katie Green getting one each. Kaleigh Speicher hit a home run for Warsaw, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Lady Kingsmen. The 4-3 Warsaw Lady Tigers travel to Plymouth today for a Northern Lakes Conference game.

In Northern Lakes Conference play, the Elkhart Memorial softball team hit four home runs and defeated the visiting Wawasee Lady Warriors 12-4 Thursday. In the loss, Wawasee’s Mattia Rostochak hit a triple and Madi Anderson hit a home run. Anderson finished the game going 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Shelby Newhard also went 2 for 3. The loss drops Wawasee to 5-5 overall and 0-2 in the NLC. The Lady Warriors have another conference game today, hosting NorthWood at 5 p.m.

Thanks to a third set tie-breaker win by Alli Tucker at No. 1 singles, the Warsaw girls tennis team defeated Fairfield 3-2 Thursday at home. Following two-set wins by Sarah Hartle at No. 2 singles and Elise Smith at No. 3 singles, Tucker overcame a 6-3 second-set loss to defeat Abbey Neff 7-6 (8-6) in the decisive third set, getting her team to 3-1 on the year. The Warsaw Lady Tigers travel to Plymouth tonight.

Defeating the visiting Whitko Lady Wildcats 3-2 Thursday, the Tippecanoe Valley girls tennis team evened its season record at 1-1 and opened its Three Rivers Conference schedule at 1-0. Valley got its three wins from Kendra Roberts (No. 2 singles), Staci Groom (No. 3 singles) and the No.1 doubles tandem of Danielle Bussard and Amanda Simpson. For Whitko, Nicole Slaymaker (No. 1 singles) and its No. 2 doubles team of Aressa Tackwell and Lauren Hippensteel got wins. Valley will be at Saturday’s Bremen Tournament, while Whitko’s next match is Monday at Columbia City.

Manchester’s win came at No. 1 singles, where Megan Metzger was a 6-4, 6-4 victor. In defeating Goshen 78-54 and Elkhart Memorial 100-32, the Tigers finished the meet winning eight events.
