Tommy's Restaurant Open On WinonaThomas Smith has been living in the area, on and off, for about the last 15 years.
After trying his hand in several other ventures, he decided to take the building at 502 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw, and turn it into a restaurant.
With a recent influx of restaurants to Warsaw, each with its own niche, Smith hopes to bring people in with home-cooked items as well as some that may be hard to find around here.
The restaurant opened June 12.
Tommy's offers Chicago-style hot dogs as well as Italian beef and Polish sausage sandwiches.
Smith has been working on the building for two years, making renovations and building everything inside the restaurant as well as doing the designs.
Tommy's is also the home of the "Chili Dog with a spoon". Smith said the hot dog is so big you need to eat it with a spoon.
Tommy's also has Tom Tom Tamales, a Chicago staple.
The shop started out as a doughnut shop. Smith said they will soon add doughnuts once again.
There are also plans for a drive-up window and ice cream shop with malts, shakes and root beer floats.
Until the doughnut shop opens, the hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Tommy's will be open at 5 a.m. when the doughnut shop is ready.
