PIERCETON - Town councilman Terry Hill has announced his resignation from the board effective at the end of January. The Jan. 10 6:30 p.m. meeting will be his last. Hill, 59, a council member since 1996 and lifelong town resident, is moving to Barbee Lake.
This morning Hill said he and his wife, Jane, had a trailer on Barbee for three years. Jane works in the Pierceton town clerk's office. The couple recently decided to make the move permanent and their Pierceton house sold very quickly.
"I'll just have to bid my farewell and stop by occasionally and harass them," he said of town council members Jerry Kreger and Bob Tenney.
During his tenure on the council, he assisted in attracting businesses to locate in the industrial parks and assisted in the development of a senior center and town garage, which replaced a run-down gas station in the downtown area.
The Hills are moving from a three-bedroom house with five closets, a full basement, attic and two-car garage to a lake home with one bedroom and one closet.
He has worked at Ameri-Kan in Warsaw for 27 years.
"When you live in a community as long as I have and are used to driving on Ind. 13 and U.S. 30, it's going to be traumatic to take the back roads," he said, laughing.
He thinks he'll adapt and quickly become a "laker," though.
"I'll learn to fish and take out the pontoon," the Democrat said.
Council president Jerry Kreger was elected to the board at the same time as Hill.
"Terry's done so much for the community, even before he was elected to the council," Kreger said. "He will be sadly missed. If it hadn't been for Terry Hill the town wouldn't have the senior center."
Kreger has no idea who may be interested in the at-large seat. Steve Haines, the county Democratic Party chairman, will be taking candidate names and calling a caucus if several people apply.
"I hope there is a lot of interest," Kreger said.
