CULVER – After struggling through the regular season with a 1-8 record, the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings made things exciting before falling 27-26 at Culver Military Academy Friday in Class 3A Sectional 26 action. With the teams tied at 20-20, the host Eagles regained a seven-point lead when Jesse Brownfield threw an 8-yard pass to Wheaton Jackoboice, who lateralled to David Pumarejo, who raced 51 yards to paydirt. Cole Winchester’s extra-point kick gave CMA a 27-20 lead with 7:07 remaining in the game. With just 29 ticks on the clock, Valley’s Alec Craig connected with Jarred Littlejohn on a 20-yard pass and catch for a touchdown. The Vikings attempted a two-point conversion but were stopped, and CMA escaped with the narrow victory. The Eagles, who beat Valley 36-13 in Akron in the first game of the season, improved to 4-6. The Vikings finished the season with a record of 1-9. Garrett Bell led Valley with 143 yards on 27 carries, while Rune Kirby led CMA’s ground game with 59 yards on nine carries. Pumarejo had 56 yards on just two carries. CMA will host Peru in a sectional semifinal Friday. Peru opened tournament play with a 28-20 win over Maconaquah.

DECATUR – Despite the efforts of Garrett Elder and Tanner Hughes, the Whitko Wildcats lost 24-20 at Bellmont Friday in Class 3A Sectional 27 football action. Elder, Whitko’s quarterback, carried the ball 17 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns, while Hughes, a fullback, rackedup 126 yards and a score on 26 carries. As a team, the Wildcats tallied 309 yards of total offense, 279 of which came on the ground. The host Braves tallied 301 yards of offense – 173 on the ground and 128 through the air. Bellmont’s Jordan Amacker scored the game-winning touchdown on an 8-yard run in the fourth quarter. With the loss, the Wildcats finish the season 6-4, while Bellmont improved to 6-4 and advanced to Friday’s sectional semifinal at Garrett.
