AKRON - The cause of death for a Tippecanoe Valley special needs student has been released.
According to a report from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Evelyn E. Bolen, 17, Warsaw, was walking around the track during a gym class at Tippecanoe Valley High School Tuesday when she was struck by another student.The student stated he was riding around the track when he heard somebody call his name.
After the student turned around and back, he said saw Bolen, hit both brakes on the bicycle and came off the bicycle colliding with Bolen.
The student, who tore the muscle off a bone in his arm and chipped a bone in his shoulder, said after he collided with Bolen he noticed she was bleeding from her mouth.
Bolen was transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne and died Wednesday evening.
An autopsy was performed at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center and the cause of death for Bolen was determined to be "Ostcoma base of skull with marked stenosis of foramen magnum and brain stem compromise."
The autposy report notes that an "anatomic abnormality was a fatal contributing factor".
The bicycle the student who hit Bolen was riding belonged to physical education teacher Greg Sciarra.
Sciarra stated in a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report that the student didn't have permission to ride his bicycle while the student stated Sciarra did give him permission.
