AKRON -ÊWith no members of the general public present, the Tippecanoe Valley School Board held their budget hearing Monday.
The board will vote on whether or not to adopt the budget at its regular 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13 meeting.
The 2000 budget is based on an estimated assessed valuation of $88,650,000. The 1999 advertised assessed valuation was $85.5 million while the 1999 actual assessed valuation was $88,647,924.
The total tax rate to be advertised for 2000 will be $6.4029. The actual 1999 tax rate was $5.5743, though it was advertised at 6.2092.
For advertising purposes, the estimated 2000 levy will be $5,676,171. In 1999, the actual tax levy was $4,881,480, compared to the 1999 advertised tax levy of $5,308,866.
The budget will now be reviewed by the Indiana Board of Accounts.
In other business, the board approved a motion to clarify a statement that all people who speak to the school board be respectful toward the board.
At the Aug. 16 meeting, board member Tom Weaver made a statement while Mike Yazel was at the podium. Weaver asked patrons to be respectful and not to resort to name calling. Monday, the board clarified Weaver's statement and said the statement was not directed at Yazel but to all members of the public.
