Tippy Valley Gets Several Donations

AKRON – During its meeting Monday, the Tippecanoe Valley School Board received details of several new donations.

Woodlawn Hospital of Fulton County donated $10,000 to support the installation of bus arm cameras.

According to Lori Tilden-Geiger, director of marketing, public relations and grant writing for Tippecanoe Valley School Corp., the cameras will help with safety of the students throughout the entire county.

Tilden-Geiger said, “TVSC is grateful for the outpouring of community support for our business partners. We are committed to student safety and our Transportation Department Safety Review Committee co-chaired by the sheriffs in both Fulton and Kosciusko Counties is important work. Additionally, Pike Lumber Company donated $3,800 in support of the same project.”

Local resident William Hoover donated a Farmall C tractor to the Tippecanoe Valley High School FFA. The tractor will allow students to work on the tractor in any way that is beneficial to the classwork. According to teacher Michael Jones and TVHS Principal Chad Cripe, the goal is to restore the tractor and raffle it off at some point. The estimated value of the donation is $700.

Special Education teacher Cathy Olsen told the board that the corporation was awarded two Life Vests valued at $160. Olson explained that over half of her class at Tippecanoe Valley Middle School has autism and that vests at the high school are not sized correctly for her older students. The Life Vests will be used by both middle school and high school students for safe swimming instruction.

The cooking class associated with a part of the functional life skills curriculum received a donation of supplies from Creative Celebration. Students had toured Creation Celebration during the first trimester where they learned about growing food.
