Tippecanoe Valley Remains Unbeaten In Conference Play

WABASH – A harsh winter may have made this season’s scheduling a bit topsy-turvy, but head coach Bill Patrick and the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings were looking to keep the machine well-oiled going in to Friday night’s game against the Wabash Apaches. Senior Tanner Andrews and junior Chainey Zolman scored 12 points each to pace the Vikings to a 56-35 victory over the Apaches in Coolman Gym. The Vikings caught fire early, racing out to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter – and they didn’t look back once. Valley stayed consistent and finished the game 26 of 43 (60 percent) from the field. Late in the second quarter, Andrews collided with a Wabash player and stayed down on the floor for a while. He was able to walk to the locker room under his own power with head trainer Jennifer Backus. It was revealed later that he pulled his left hamstring. Andrews tried to continue playing early in the third quarter. While he remained in the game for a couple minutes, Patrick wondered if it would be better to have Andrews off the court to recover. “I think he will be OK for next Thursday’s game, but we are going to wait and see,” said Patrick. “If he’s not healthy, we will go without him if we need to. We want him ready for the North Miami and Southwood games next week.” Coming out of the half, Patrick asked Andrews if he wanted to go back out. “I think I can go a little harder than I did before, but there’s no reason to because the other guys are playing well,” Andrews told Patrick. “Go ahead and let them play the way they are playing.” Valley displayed a great supporting cast, as the Vikings also benefitted from Robby Groom’s 11 points, Logan Britton’s eight and also six from Ben Shriver. On the other side of things, the Apaches’ Roger Davis has also been impressive, scoring team-highs and in double digits the past three games, including his 13-point performance on Friday, though Wabash fell to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in the Three Rivers Conference. Tippecanoe Valley, enjoying a six-game winning streak, improved to 10-2 overall and remains undefeated in the Three Rivers Conference at 5-0. The Vikings will take a short break from TRC play when they host the John Glenn Falcons in non-conference play. Tip-off is slated for 7:45 p.m.
