AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley High School Building Trades program, under the direction of instructor Wes Backus, will host an open house May 20 from 1 to 4 p.m.
The open house features the home built for Erik Sampsel at 8160 E. Ind. 14, Akron. The Sampsel home is on the west side of Lake 16, approximately four miles west of Akron and two miles east of Athens on Ind. 14.
The open concept Adobe or Santa Fe style home has a beautiful view of Lake 16, a family owned lake. The home is a grand total of 4,626 square feet with the ground floor and basement each 1,660 square feet, a second floor of 606 square feet and a 700 square foot attached garage. The home features three full baths, two bedrooms upstairs and the possibility of two additional bedrooms in the basement.
A stucco finish covers the home’s exterior while the roof is covered by metal shingles that resemble a clay tile roof. Telephone poles have been used to construct a back porch roof and walk out balcony for the second story master bedroom. The home is heated and cooled by a geothermal system.
The public is invited to attend the open house and view the home constructed by the Building Trades students of Tippecanoe Valley High School.
