ROCHESTER – Brandon Webster ran for 96 yards on 12 carries, and Rigo Butler caught three passes for 32 yards and a touchdown in Tippecanoe Valley’s 17-10 loss to rival Rochester Friday night. Garrett Bell rushed for 66 yards on six carries, and Alec Craig passed for 76 yards and the touchdown. The Vikings travel to Wabash for a Three Rivers Conference game Friday night. Girls Golf Friday in Carmel Wawasee senior Mikala Mawhorter had difficulty navigating the windy, chilly conditions at the IHSAA Girls State Golf tournament Friday, shooting an uncharacteristic 25-over par 97 in the tourney’s first round at Prairie View Golf Club. Of 100 enterants, only 17 managed to break 10-over par. The tournament leader, Lafayette’s Central Catholic’s Morgan Brown carded a 3-over 75. Mawhorter is tied for 82nd. Mawhorter is set to tee off in the tourney’s second round at 8:57 this morning on the No. 10 hole.
Volleyball Thursday in Culver Tippecanoe Valley earned a 25-10, 25-11, 25-8 win at Culver Community Thursday evening. Maddy Henninger led the Lady vikings with 17 assists. Abby Betten had 11 kills, Kalyla Scott registered six aces and Sophie Bussard recorded six digs in the winning effort. Now 17-8 on the season, Valley travels to rival Rochester for a Three Rivers Conference match Monday.
Boys Soccer Thursday in Middlebury Juaquin Juarez scored once and assisted on another goal in Warsaw’s 2-1 win at Northridge. Pedro Monsivais scored off a corner kick by Juarez for the Tigers’ first goal, then Juarez found the net off a feed from Lucas Cone. The Tiger junior varsity team won 1-0 over the Raiders. The Warsaw varsity completes its regular season 3-14 and 1-6 in the Northern Lakes Conference, and will host Wawasee in the sectional opener at 7 p.m. Wednesday
