Tippecanoe Valley Educators Present At Indiana Conference

On Oct. 4, three Tippecanoe Valley educators conducted presentations at the annual AdvancED Indiana Fall Conference in Indianapolis.
Tippecanoe Valley Middle School seventh-grade science teacher Michelle DeBaets, and eighth-grade social studies teacher Scott Backus made a one-hour presentation titled "Preparing All Students for Success with Viking PASS and the Positive Behavior Intervention System."
DeBaets and Backus shared with the attendees how the combined implementation of Viking PASS and PBIS has led to substantial improvement in student academic and behavioral accountability at Tippecanoe Valley Middle School.
Later in the afternoon, Jon Ekhoff, Tippecanoe Valley PBIS coach and school psychologist, presented the topic "Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (P.B.I.S.): A Tool for School Success".Ekhoff addressed the implementation of PBIS at Akron Elementary School, Mentone Elementary School, Tippecanoe Valley Middle School and Tippecanoe Valley High School. His presentation focused on topics such as key components of a universal level intervention, developing behavioral matrixes, building school teams and providing positive rewards for students. Data was presented showing the effectiveness of PBIS in Tippecanoe Valley's schools.
