AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation announced online availability of information about the wind turbine on the campus of Tippecanoe Valley High School and Tippecanoe Valley Middle School. The Wind Turbine Information Center is at the top of the front page of the corporation website at www.tvsc.k12.in.us By clicking on the link the viewer will be taken to a second page where multiple options are available: 1) Current Performance of the Wind Turbine; 2) Frequently Asked Questions; 3) Current Weather Information; and 4) Monthly Performance Reports. The View Current Performance link features the wind turbine cockpit that shows real-time electrical production. The first gauge shows the kilowatts of electricity currently being produced by the wind turbine. A second gauge of the cockpit shows the current wind speed in meters per second. The cut-in wind speed, the wind speed required for the wind turbine to operate, is 3 meters per second (6.7 miles per hour). Also displayed are the total megawatt hours of electricity produced since the wind turbine began operation in late 2011. The Frequently Asked Questions link takes the viewer to a highly informative three-page document of answers to questions frequently asked about the wind turbine’s specifications, installation and operations and maintenance. The Current Weather Conditions link reflects the current weather conditions, providing data from the weather center on the roof of Tippecanoe Valley Middle School. The site includes a live camera showing the wind turbine. Monthly Performance Reports are posted as they are received. Daily wind turbine availability for production and electricity production data are displayed in chart form. The link also shows in graph form actual average monthly wind speeds compared to predicted average monthly wind speeds. Also shown in graph form is actual monthly availability for production compared to the manufacturer’s guaranteed availability of 95 percent.
