WINONA LAKE - The public is invited today to participate in the dedication of a bronze art piece donated to Winona Lake.
The "Timeline Of Liberty" art dedication is at 12:45 p.m. in front of Winona Lake Town Hall.
The four bronze art pieces were donated by Mary Louise and Dane Miller.
The bronze art pieces depict historic leaders who thrived between 500 B.C. and the end of the 19th century, global leaders who were instrumental in developing the current definition of liberty.
The lifesize art piece portrays, in chronological sequence, major events and the individuals over the last 2,500 years that made major contributions to the freedom and dignity of man.
According to information provided, it is "A work that will have lasting educational value, this bas relief will help young men and women understand that the spread of liberal democracy throughout the world during the past centuries is not happenstance.
"Rather, it is the result of the ideas of a number of great thinkers and communicators who lived and wrote over a period of 25 centuries."
One of the bas reliefs will be permanently displayed on the Greenway behind Winona Lake Town Hall. Three contiguous pieces and a bronze eagle will be installed in a permanent display in front of the town hall.Winona Lake Clerk-Treasurer Retha Hicks said Winona Lake thanks the Millers in giving this artwork that enriches the community from both historic and artistic perspectives.
