Parents organizing baby books for children born this year may want to jot down a future date for their child to remember. When he or she celebrates their 50th birthday, a time capsule "buried" this year will be reopened.
Ken Locke has been compiling items for a time capsule to be placed in the Justice Building. The building's cornerstone was designed with a time capsule cavity. Although the work was finished in 2002, the cornerstone is empty.
Ken Locke is keeper of the big copper box which already holds a U.S. and an Indiana flag, memorabilia from the Warsaw sesquicentennial celebration, coins and other items.
Anyone interested in adding things is invited to bring them two times: during a public meeting at the Warsaw Community Public Library, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Meeting Room B, and next Saturday in the main tent on the courthouse lawn from 5 to 6 p.m.
Locke said he would like to include all three volumes of "Kosciusko County, A Pictorial History." He doesn't have volume 1, which would have to be donated.
"The meetings are being held so everyone can see what is going in the time capsule and to give anyone an opportunity to donate an item," Locke said.
The box will be sealed June 28 following the county commissioners meeting, carried to the Justice Building and installed in the cornerstone for 50 years.
