The Warsaw boys tennis team successfully defended its sectional title Friday, although it did have to be moved indoors. Facing Tippecanoe Valley in the Sectional 4 championship match, rain forced the title match to be moved to the Warsaw Racquet Club, but the Tigers weren’t fazed, winning 5-0. With the victory, Warsaw now moves on to Tuesday’s Culver Military Academy Regional, where it will face the host Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. During the regular season, CMA defeated Warsaw 3-2 on Sept. 4 at the Tiger Courts. Claiming their second-straight, and 26th overall, sectional title, the Tigers didn’t need three sets on any of the five courts. At singles, Sam Rice defeated Tanner Neeley 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1, Kyle Wettschurack downed Derrick Cunningham 6-1, 6-1 on the No. 2 court and Evan Miller took down Isaac Shewman 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3. Warsaw’s No. 1 doubles team of Nikos Schlitt and Will Petro were 6-2, 6-2 victors over Logan Britton and Trevor Neeley and the Tigers’ tandem of Caleb Ray and Nic Jansen prevailed over Willy Inglehearn and Lucas Britton 6-1, 6-0. Warsaw sits at 12-5 going into the regional.
