Tigers, Warriors Advance To State Indoor

Track athletes from Wawasee and Warsaw qualified for the Hoosier State Relays indoor state track meet on Saturday in West Lafayette.
Warsaw athletes advancing from Friday’s competition at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion are: Emma Lemon, Michaela Roark and Courtney Sainer in the 3200-meter run; Alexia Day, Rebecca Lemon and Mercedes Sanchez in the 60 hurdles; Anna Decker and Shunters Davis in the 60 dash; Day in the high jump; Lemon and Kenzie Merchant in the pole vault; 4x200 relay team (Davis, Merchant, Blake McGarvey, Lemon); 4x400 relay team (Audrey Hanson, Morgan Bruner, Day, Haley Peterson).
On Saturday, Samantha Alexander advanced in the long jump, winning the qualifier with a school record 18’ 3” effort. The 4x200 relay team of Mariah Harter, Alexander, Tennie Worrell and Audrey Rich set a new school record of 1:47.40.
Others advancing from Saturday’s meet at IWU are: Nicole Eckert in the 60 hurdles; Harter and Abbi Curtis in the 60 dash; 4x800 relay (Taylor Stricker, Maddie Cox, Shayne McFadden, Aubrey Doyle); 4x400 relay (Nicole Eckert, Curtis, Rich, Worrell); Diana Velazquez in the shot put.
Qualifying at IPFW on Saturday were Allison Miller, Mia Beckham and Sierra Parker in the 3200 run; Kendall Menzie and Tsige Berelsman the long jump’ Passion Gardner, Madison haines and Allison Hill in the shot put; 4x800 relay (Charlene Orr, Mallory Hooks, Lauren Orr, Beckham); 4x200 relay (Cristel Bindel. Kendall Menzie, kaitlin Still, Berelsman); 4x400 relay (Maria Duenas, Menzie, Joelle Messenger, Nicki Parrett); distance medley relay (C. Orr, Mallory Hooks, L. Orr, Allison Miller).
At IPFW. Wawasee’s Clayton Cook took first place in the 60 hurdles and the long jump, and finished eighth in the high jump. J.J. Gilmer won the high jump.
Others placing in the meet were Hannah-Marie Lamle in the 40 hurdles; Aubrey Kuhn was seventh in the 60 dash; Kaitlyn Kennedy was third in the shot; the girls 4x200 relay team of Kuhn, Catherine Yankosky, Sarah Lancaster and Lamle was fifth, and the boys 4x200 team of Tyler Courter, Jacob Moore, Gilmer and Cook was second.
