Tigers Too Much For Vikings

Posted
Lucas Grose was superb again Saturday night.
His teammates were pretty good too.
The 6-foot-6 Warsaw senior was 7 of 8 from the field and scored a team-high 16 points, while the Tigers shot 66 percent as a team for the second straight night and beat the visiting Huntington North Vikings 69-45 in high school boys basketball action.
Through four games, Grose is 32 of 39 from the field overall and 3 of 3 from three-point range. He is shooting 82 percent from the field and is averaging 20 points and seven rebounds per game.
"Probably the thing I'm most impressed with about Lucas is he has slowed down," said Warsaw coach Doug Ogle, whose team improved to 3-1 on the season with the 24-point win. "He's making more basketball plays now, instead of using just brute strength."
As a team, the Tigers were 25 of 38 from the field overall, 5 of 9 from the arc, and 14 of 21 from the charity stripe.
Junior Jared Bloom added 12 points, five rebounds and three assists for the Tigers, who had a total of 10 players score at least two points.
Senior Jay Holladay and junior Taylor Cone scored nine points each, while seniors Brock Anson and Jordyn Coon scored five points each and senior Rhett Kesler and sophomore Jordan Stookey added four points each.
Senior Kevin West and junior John Swanson rounded out Warsaw's scoring with three and two points, respectively.
"Anson, West, Cone and Stookey really gave us a shot of energy," said Ogle. "Brock Anson played well tonight. We were pretty solid up and down the lineup, and we got a lot of contributions from everyone."
The Tigers led 14-7 after one quarter of play, 36-16 at halftime and 53-26 at the end of the third quarter.
Warsaw shot 66 percent from the field Friday night, but let an 11-point lead get away and lost 67-65 to an undefeated Homestead team.
The Vikings didn't provide much of a challenge Saturday night, though they did enter the game with a 2-1 record.
Huntington North's only lead of the game was at 5-2 in the opening minutes.
The Tigers closed the first quarter with a 12-2 run, and later went on a 17-0 run in the second quarter.
"Obviously Huntington North isn't as good as Homestead, but I'm pleased with our effort," said Ogle. "Huntington North was averaging almost 75 points per game. Our goal was to keep them below 50, and we did that."
The Vikings were 16 of 44 from the field overall, 7 of 26 from the arc, and 6 of 10 from the free throw line.
Junior Noah Reed led Huntington North with a game-high 17 pionts, while senior Levi Lawson and junior Kalvin Miller scored 11 and eight points, respectively.
No other player scored more than three points for the Vikings, who are now coached by Aaron Cripe, who was 8-36 in two years as the head coach at Manchester.
The Tigers are in action again Saturday at 12:45 p.m. when they play Rochester at Butler University's Hinkle Fieldhouse.
