Tigers Lead Roundup With Goshen Relays Championship

Posted
A year after falling one point shy of winning the title, the Warsaw boys track and field team was able to reclaim the Goshen Relays title Saturday.
Two years ago, Warsaw and Carroll tied for first place in the Class A Division, then Penn nipped the Tigers 84-83 last year.
This time around, the Tigers didn’t leave any doubt, scoring 100 points, with Penn coming in a second with 86.
The highlight of the day came in the shot put, where University of Kentucky commit Seth Fouts set a new Goshen Relays and Warsaw school record with a distance of 60-7.
Gabe Furnivall also had an impressive day for the Tigers, taking part in three first-place relays, including the 4x100 (Tanner Balazs, Tristan McClone, Mike Miller), the 4x200 (Chad Goon, Ryan Goon, Miller) and the 4x400 (Landon Perry, C. Goon, R. Goon).
In the 100, Warsaw’s Miller (11.29) and McClone (11.76) finished second and fourth, respectively, sandwiching University of Notre Dame football commit Drue Tranquill’s 11.64.
In Class B, the West Noble Chargers took the title with 79 points, while Wawasee was sixth (54) and Whitko placed 12th (38).
For Wawasee, Clayton Cook won the 110 hurdles (14.98), J.J. Gilmer finished second in the high jump (6-2) and Adam Doll (4:31.22) and Zach Cockrill (4:43.14) each finished second in their respective 1600 races.
The Whitko Wildcats’ 800 sprint medley relay of Eli Wallace, Dustin Cunningham, Taylor Raatz and Nick Byler were second with a time of 1:42.47.
Whitko is at Manchester Wednesday, while Warsaw and Concord will visit Wawasee Thursday.
