With the game on the line, Warsaw’s baseball team came to life Friday evening. Hosting Northern Lakes Conference foe Concord, the Tigers trailed 5-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Warsaw scored four runs in the home half of the frame and earned a thrilling 6-5 win over the Minutemen. The Tigers scored one run in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth, taking a 2-0 lead before Concord plated three in the sixth and two in the seventh. Tyler LaFollette pounded out three of Warsaw’s seven hits in the win, including a pair of doubles, and drove in three runs. Ethyn Bradley, Brad Christenberry, Sterling Hay and Zach Witt had one hit each for Warsaw. Jake Vernon, who hit the game’s only home run, and Zack Stauffer, Quinn Miller and Jake Wirt had two hits each for Concord. Isaac Lenon was credited with the win on the mound, pitching 5-1/3 innings, giving up seven hits, three runs and a walk. He struck out two Concord batters. Jake Momacher was charged with the loss on the mound. He pitched 1/3 of an inning, giving up two hits and a run. Blake Foreman was credited with the win after pitching 1-2/3 innings and giving up four hits, two runs and no walks. With the win, the Tigers are now 5-6 overall and 3-3 in the NLC. Warsaw is in action again today in a doubleheader at Valparaiso. Friday in Culver Triton’s varsity baseball team scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning en route to a 6-3 win at Northern State Conference rival Culver. Zac Pitney, Gabe McPherson and Adam Stevens pounded out two hits each in the win. Pitney was credited with the win on the mound after a three-inning pitching performance in which he gave up six hits, three runs and four walks while striking out four. Friday in Goshen Wawasese’s varsity baseball team gave seven runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings Friday, falling 12-8 at Northern Lakes Conference rival Goshen. The game was tied 6-6 before Goshen scored five runs in the fifth en route to the win. The host Redskins pounded out 16 hits, while Wawasee had 11 hits, including three each from Drew Anderson and Gage Reinhard. Anderson’s effort included a double and a home run. SOFTBALL Friday in Syracuse The Wawasee Lady Warriors scored three runs in the first inning of their Northern Lakes Conference game with Goshen and never looked back. Wawasee pounded out 10 hits in the game and won 10-0 in six innings. Allyssa Flores was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs for the Lady Warriors, who are now 11-2 overall and 6-0 in the NLC. Danielle Gunkel hit two doubles and had three RBIs for Wawasee. Meghan Fretz was credited with the pitching win. The Lady Warriors play at East Noble today.
