Warsaw’s boys swim team certainly put itself in position to win its eighth consecutive and 16th overall sectional championship. Hosting the sectional prelims, which were postponed one day, the Tigers had the fastest time in seven of the 11 swimming events Friday evening and had at least one individual or team advance in each event. The sectional finals, as well as the diving competition, will be today at Warsaw. The top eight teams or individuals in each of Friday’s events qualified for today’s finals. The Tigers swam the fastest time in two relays, with Jayden Parrett, Spencer Davidson, Ethan Cook and Matt Wildman clocking 1:40.82 in the 200 medley relay, and the same quartet clocking 1:31.39 in the 200 freestyle relay. In individual events, Warsaw had the fastest time in the 200 freestyle (Parrett), 200 individual medley (Zach Taylor), 100 butterfly (Josh Miller), 100 backstroke (Parrett) and 100 breaststroke (Davidson). Davidson’s time of 59.60 seconds in the breaststroke was a new sectional record, as he broke his own time of 1:00.27 from 2012. So dominant in the prelims were the Tigers, in six events – 200 freestyle, 200 IM, 500 freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke and breaststroke – they had three swimmers advance. Manchester qualified for today’s sectional finals in two events. Noah Cain, Xzavier Whitaker, Colin Garcia and Evan Milam finished eighth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:59.43, and Garcia, Max Karg, Cain and Milam were eighth in the 200 medley relay in 1:44.65. Tippecanoe Valley qualified for the finals in one event, as Tyler Ross was fourth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.99 seconds.
