Tiger Woods is at it again. Woods fired his swing coach this week. Sean Foley is the latest to carry the burden of being responsible for not making Woods the No. 1 golfer in the world again. Not the first, just the latest. Woods fired Foley after four years and eight tournament wins – but none in major championships. Foley joins golf coaching legends Butch Harmon and Hank Haney in getting the boot, and maybe he's better off. Since Woods’ infamous drive to the end of his driveway where his wife took a 3-iron to his SUV, he has been a mere shadow of himself. He has suffered from various injuries in his back and knees, causing him to miss long stretches of play, and his current comeback from back surgery at the PGA Championship ended with him not even making the cut. I would like to offer this advise to Tiger in how he could get his act and his game back together – take responsibility for yourself! I don't know Foley. I don't know if he knows anything about a golf swing or if he's a good guy. But I feel quite confident that HE is not Woods’ biggest problem. The real problem would require Woods to grab a mirror and hold it face-high. Woods had nothing but glowing things to say about Foley in his statement announcing their parting of ways. “I'd like to thank Sean for his help as my coach and for his friendship,” Woods said in a statement Monday. “Sean is one of the outstanding coaches in golf today, and I know he will continue to be successful with the players working with him.” But... Now, in fairness, many who know the mechanics of golf say Woods' swing IS messed up. Foley has a different approach to swinging a golf club and it clearly wasn't working with Woods. But we're talking about TIGER WOODS folks. Does he need a swing coach? Every swing he takes in a tournament, even when he is on the third page of the TV leader board, is shown on TV. I am pretty sure he can afford a DVR. So just watch your own swing and figure it out! Tiger Woods' biggest problem has been and still is Tiger Woods. You know what this is like. “Really?” you say. “Yep” I respond. Got anyone in your life who just can't seem to get over the hump in their life. Maybe they don't stay in one job for very long. Maybe they can't make relationships work. And they say to everyone who will listen “what's wrong with everyone.” That's when someone has to walk up to that person, put their arm around them and ask in love and grace “have you considered that the problem may be you?” My guess is Woods doesn't have anyone like that anymore. He did, I think, but his dad passed away and left a void that is yet to be filled. Woods has been trying to catch Jack Nicklaus for major championships (he needs four more). He's never going to catch him because his body is breaking down and his self-philosophy is flawed. Tiger, buddy, here's a mirror. There is the problem.
