Tiger Swimmers Win Mini-Invitationals, Valley Fourth

Posted
Warsaw swimmers hosted and  won miniature invitational meets Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Tigers outdistanced Rochester 198-173, with Huntington North third at 67 points and Tippecanoe Valley at 48 points.
The boys team beat Rochester 194-131, with Huntington North third at 96 and Valley at 82.
Junior Brenna Morgan and freshman Delaney Wihebrink were double winners for Warsaw; Morgan took the 200 and 100 freestyle races and Wihebrink the 200 IM and 100 backstroke. Other winners for the Lady Tigers were Lauren Kohl in the 500 free and all three relay teams.
“I was pretty happy with how we swam,” Warsaw head coach Anthony DeBrota said. “After coming back from Christmas break training, and getting PRs or close to it, I am excited to see what is in store on Saturday versus Concord and next week at the Northern Lakes Conference meet. We still looked a little slow on the recovery during the sprint free events though. We will have to work more on that this week.”
The boys had a pair of double winners: Eli Pugh in the 200 and 500 free, and Matt Wildman in the 50 and 100 free. Evan Borchers won the 100 butterfly, and the Tigers won all three relay races as well.
“Great meet for the stroke groups,” DeBrota said. “Fly was a good race for us, but a few of the sprints were still looking slow in and out of the turns.
“Still, we had some best times in the splits in the relays: Matt Wildman going a 21.98 in the free leg of the 200 medley and Ethan going 49.19 in the 400 free relay.”
Tippecanoe Valley’s Kate Gunter won the 100 butterfly and Tyler Ross was third in the 100 freestyle.
Warsaw will swim against Concord in NLC action Saturday, and Valley will host Rochester Tuesday.
