Tiger Netters Take Second

Warsaw Community High School served as the host site for Saturday's Northern Lakes Conference boys tennis chamionship. Goshen won the team championship with its score of 37. Warsaw finished second with a 38. Goshen coach Paul Algate was named Coach of the Year.

Goshen won championships at No. 1 singles, where Michael Weaver defeated Warsaw's Dan Benyousky 6-2, 6-0 and at No. 1 doubles, where Matt Shively and David Harms topped Warsaw's Eric Grossnickle and Matt Krizmanich 6-3, 6-2. Goshen also won the consolation round at No. 2 doubles.

Warsaw failed to win an individual championship but came away with the consolation win at No. 2 singles where senior Steve Slaughter defeated Wawasee's Josh Abrams 6-1, 6-1.

Wawasee won two consolation rounds. Freshmen Evan Gerard defeated Goshen's Jordan Sherman 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3 singles and Mickey Ashpole and Logan Pilcher edged Northridge's Jordan Runge and Sebastian Peers 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4.

Warsaw's Benyousky and Grossnickle were named to the at-large all-conference team.
