Tiger Den Court Getting A New LookWarsaw Community High School’s Tiger Den is getting a new look. Currently, the court is completely stripped down to the wood, enabling the makeover. “This is not something frivolous or just something we wanted to do,” WCHS athletic director Dave Anson said. According to Anson, the Den’s court, like the rest of the school’s floors, receives routine annual maintenance. Ordinarily, a half coat of varnish is removed, while two coats are put on. By stripping half a coat, and replacing it with two new coats, a complete overhaul is required every 10 to 12 years, which is what’s going on now at Warsaw. Faced with an opportunity to give the court a new look, Anson turned to help from people in the community, including PayProMedia Studios, a Warsaw-based marketing agency. Relying on the company to produce a variety of logos, fonts and different arrangements for the court, Anson then received input from numerous individuals. Once a common thought on the look of the court was reached, the design was selected. For now, Anson is being tight-lipped about what the court will look like, but did give hints, such as the space inside the three-point arc being a darker stain than the rest of the court. Also, the Tiger Den featured four different shades of orange, but will now feature only Sherwin Williams’ ‘Knockout Orange’, matching the scoreboard. Outside of that, he was pretty mum. “It’s going to be vibrant, classy, traditional, yet something unique,” he said. The floor is expected to be finished by Hammel Floor Service, out of Huntington, between July 16 and 19. To document the progression of the court, Anson has a camera set up overlooking the Den. Two to four times a day, he takes a shot from the camera and hopes to post them on the school’s website once the court is completed.
