Thursday Fire Started In Detached GarageOSWEGO – No injuries were reported Thursday morning after a fire that started in a detached garage.
Leesburg Fire Chief Jared Haughee said the fire at 5713 N. 2nd St., Warsaw, in Clay Township, originated in a detached garage but extended to the house. The house was on fire when the fire department received the call at 5:45 a.m.
He said they were trying to figure out the cause of the fire, but the garage sustained a lot of damage so it would be difficult. The storm with lots of lightning was sweeping through the area at the time, but Haughee said he did not know, as of Thursday morning, if a lightning strike might have caused the fire. Firefighters did battle the fire during the rain and lightning.
The home was occupied by people renting the house, including three adults and two children, but no one suffered any injuries, he said. County public records indicate the deeded owners are Spencer K. and Rebecca Buskirk Davis, EMS T26 Lane, Leesburg. Haughee estimated the damage at around $80,000.
Assisting Leesburg at the scene were Milford and North Webster fire departments on full assist, a tanker assist from Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office and Lutheran EMS were on scene.
