Three-Year Sentence for Man Who Hit Someone with Car

Wednesday morning, John Ciacca, 33, of Warsaw, was sentenced to three years in prison for  running over another man with a car on Oct. 19.

Ciacca was charged with battery by means of a deadly weapon or causing serious bodily injury, a Class C felony.

Kosciusko County Superior Court I Judge Duane Huffer sentenced Ciacca to three years in the Indiana Department of Corrections. Ciacca was given credit for three days in jail and three days good time credit for a total of six days credit.

Ciacca also was ordered to pay restitution to the victim in the amount of $1,550.

According to a report from the Warsaw Police Department, Ciacca and a woman he had dated were arguing while she was on the phone with the victim, before the incident. The victim heard the argument and walked down the street to check on the woman.

At some point after the argument, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy Jeff Howie was taking out his trash when he witnessed Ciacca run over the victim in the alley behind the 700 block of East Main Street.

Howie arrested Ciacca at the scene.

The woman Ciacca argued with witnessed the incident as well.
