Three drivers were hospitalized following an accident Tuesday afternoon near Leesburg. Shaina E. Harrell, 25, Warsaw, was flown in very serious condition to Memorial Hospital, South Bend, after her SUV was struck head-on by a car driven by Jaqueline M. Dominguez, Market Street, Nappanee, around 5:14 p.m. Tuesday. Dominguez was taken to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, in serious condition after the crash on Ind. 15 at West CR 600N, according to the release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department. A third driver, Melinda G. Powell, 45, East CR 575N, Leesburg, was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital in fair condition. The accident started when Dominguez rear-ended Powell’s vehicle, which was slowing to turn east onto West CR 600N, as both were traveling southbound on Ind. 15, according to the report. Dominguez continued into the northbound lane of Ind. 15 and struck Harrell’s southbound vehicle head-on, the release states. Leesburg/Plain Township firefighters requested immediate assistance from Warsaw/Wayne Township Fire Territory to extricate both Dominguez and Powell from their vehicles due to severe damage from the crash. The crash is still under investigation by the Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team, pending legal toxicology results on all drivers as required by Indiana law.
