SYRACUSE – Sunday morning Syracuse was the scene of a large bar brawl that moved to a local gas station.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy Brad Kellar arrested three males for disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
Ricky Lee Jones, 23, of South Bend; Kelvin L. Robinson Jr., 28, of Goshen; and Demetrius Sterlin Miller, 24, of Goshen were arrested in connection to the fight at Duffy’s Pub and Grub.
Kellar responded to a report of disorderly conduct at Duffy’s at 3:17 a.m. Upon arrival he was informed that a large group of males had fled the scene prior to his arrival. Dispatch notified Kellar that the fight had moved to Wilby’s Marathon station a few blocks from Duffy’s.
When Kellar pulled up to Wilby’s he saw 10 to 12 subjects between three or four cars. He focused his attention on three particular males.
He noticed that a few of the subjects had injuries and informed the subjects to stop fighting and get on the ground. He yelled several times, but his orders were ignored. He then pulled out his Taser and threatened to fire it if his orders were not followed.
While Kellar was detaining the three subjects he noticed that other subjects were fleeing the scene as additional officers were arriving for backup support.
When Kellar detained the subjects he noticed that all three were intoxicated and he offered a portable breathalizer test to the three subjects. Jones registered a blood alcohol content of .13 percent, Miller registered a BAC of .11 and Robinson Jr. refused the PBT, stating it was entrapment.
Later on, Syracuse Police Department officer Jay Griffith told Kellar that he would talk to the owner of the gas station and supply him with a copy of the surveillance video. At the time of Kellar’s report, the video had not been received.
Police were unsure of the motive for the fight.
All three were booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on $350 bond.
