SILVER LAKE – Early Sunday morning, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. deputy Brad Kellar was on patrol near Diamond Lake when he found a meth lab.
Kellar arrested Michael Allen Privett, 38, of 5206 W. Corlys Lane, Silver Lake; Cheyenne Pauline Miller, 20, of 5306 W. Warren Drive, Silver Lake; and Starr Annette Privett, 37, of 5206 W. Corlys Lane, Silver Lake.
Michael Privett was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, a Class B felony, and neglect of a dependent, a Class D felony.
Starr Privett was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Class C felony; maintaining a common nuisance, a Class D felony; and neglect of a dependent, a Class D felony.
Miller, was charged with visiting a common nuisance, a Class D felony.
Kellar was on foot patrol and surveillance in the area around midnight, when he noticed a dog barking loudly. The nature of the barking alerted Kellar that something or someone was out and about. After more than a half hour of barking, Kellar saw a man walking back and forth between a shed and a residence nearby.
The man initially lied to Kellar, but then told him he was waiting for a woman at the Privett home and he was trying to get her to leave.
Upon further investigation, Kellar saw a female with bare feet standing across the street from the Privett residence. When she saw Kellar, she immediately turned and walked toward the Privetts’ home. Kellar then approached the woman and asked for her identification, and she said she left it in the trailer. Kellar followed the woman, later identified as Starr Privett, to her trailer for further identification.
Once Kellar and deputy Don McCune arrived at the trailer, they determined something wasn’t right. Within minutes of arriving at the residence, Kellar could smell methamphetamine being cooked.
McCune looked around and noticed a man hiding in the shed behind the home. When the man, later identified as Michael Privett, walked out of the shed, he had a 2-liter bottle of Orange Crush that was smoking and a headband with an LED light on.
Kellar and McCune put Michael and Starr Privett under arrest. Kellar asked Starr if there were any other persons in the trailer, and she said that her daughter was in the home. After hesitation, Starr said Miller might be in the home as well.
Miller was found upon further search of the home as well as Privett’s child. Kellar noticed the child was physically and mentally handicapped and that she had a difficult time getting around the home without her walker, which was too big to fit inside.
Miller informed Kellar that she had spent a considerable amount of time at the residence and she had not seen anyone feed the girl. Kellar also noticed that the girl’s clothes were tattered, and there was a pungent smell that came from her.
Kellar called the Indiana State Police Meth Suppression Team, the Kosciusko County Drug Task Force and Child Protective Services.
As of this morning Michael and Starr Privett were in the Kosciusko County Jail on $50,000 surety bond. Miller bonded out of KCJ early this morning.
