Thousands without Power, Almost 200 Accidents after Snowstorm
Posted
Staff Report-
Kosciusko REMC crews worked through the night to restore power to customers following Tuesday’s snow storm.
By 10:30 p.m. power had been restored to about 1,000 of the estimated 3,000 members who had lost power Tuesday. The largest outage is in the Claypool area but outages are also reported throughout the system.
The power outages were caused primarily by the heavy wet snow and a downed feed from NIPSCO. KREMC crews remain on the scene but cannot yet estimate when power will be restored to all members.
Kosciusko REMC is a Touchstone Energy® electric cooperative that serves more than 17,000 members throughout Kosciusko County and into surrounding counties.
In addition to 3,000 of REMCs customers losing power the Kosciusko County Dispatch answered a large influx of calls for help and hazard between Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
According to statistics put out by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, due to storm conditions there were 177 accidents or crashes, 62 fire calls and 380 total 911 calls countywide.
