WINONA LAKE - Liz Thomas, senior third baseman for the Grace College Lancer softball team, was named Player of the Year in the Mid Central Conference by conference coaches.
Thomas continued to improve in each of her four seasons with the Lancers, capping her collegiate career as the premier player in the league. A constant threat at the plate this season, Thomas led the Lady Lancers with a .386 batting average, seven doubles, six home runs and 20 RBIs. Her six home runs led the MCC.
Thomas also recorded 80 assists and 44 putouts on the defensive side.
"Liz constantly worked hard to better herself. She was very confident at the plate and was feared by opponents," Grace head coach Stephen Liebsch said. "Liz was also consistent on defense. She has a good glove and worked hard at it. Her upbeat personality helped to motivate the team. She is very unselfish, and her goal was always to see the team do well."
Over the past two years, Thomas hit a spectacular .394 with 12 doubles, 10 home runs and 46 RBIs.
Grace finished the season with an overall record of 13-21. The Lancers entered the MCC tournament as the No. 6 seed, but upset three teams and lost to Indiana Wesleyan in the championship game.
