Rodney Thomas was appointed Tuesday to complete the remainder of Keith Claassen’s term on the Etna Green Town Board.
Kosciusko County Republican Central Committee Chairman announced the decision at the county clerk’s office.
“I’m just very proud of it,” Thomas said afterward. “I’ve got a lot to learn and we’re going to get it done.’
Claassen resigned from the board June 5, effective immediately, due to personal and health concerns. The term expires Dec. 31, 2027.
“I thank all three candidates for filing for this vital position. Thanks also to the citizens of Etna Green who contacted Etna Township Precinct Committeeman Steve Sechrist and me to express their preferences,” Ragan said, telling Thomas it was “an unusual amount of support for your appointment. It was very nice.”
The other two candidates were Shawn Collins and Rick Price.
After the discussions and review of the three completed declarations of candidacy applications and the three candidates’ historical voting records, “Rodney Thomas has been appointed to complete the remaining term, effective immediately,” Ragan said.
“We congratulate Rod Thomas on this appointment and wish him well in his new position. We are confident that he will serve the citizens of Etna Green with courtesy and professionalism,” he continued. “The Kosciusko County Republican Party thanks Keith Claassen for his service.”
Thomas, 76, has lived in Etna Green almost his entire life. He’s been retired from the Warsaw Police Department and has never held an elected position before.
He joins Heath Roberts and Susan Klinefelter on the town board.
